Bundesliga heavyweights Borussia Dortmund have secured their first high-profile transfer ahead of the opening of the winter market.
German media outlet Bild have learned that BVB have agreed a €25 million deal for Bayern Leverkusen centre-back Omer Toprak, although the player was free to leave his club at the end of the current season for a fixed fee of €12 million.
Dortmund decided not to wait on the deal and the 27-year-old Turkey-born German international is expected to sing a four-year deal with Thomas Tuchel’s side once the market reopens in January.
Borussia Dortmund tried to sign Toprak during the summer transfer window, but Bayer Leverkusen refused to let their key defender go.
Omer Toprak began his professional career at SC Freiburg before moving to Bayer Leverkusen in 2011.
The reliable defender has so far made 138 Bundesliga appearances for his club, whereas he played 11 league matches during the current 2016/17 season.
