Borussia Dortmund general manager Michael Zorc has dismissed speculation the club want Fabian Schar as a replacement for Mats Hummels.
Hummels’ contract expires at the end of the season and although the Bundesliga club want to retain him, reports have linked them with a move for the Basel defender.
Schar moved to Basel in 2012 from Wil and has made 30 appearances for the club in the Swiss league.
His displays have caught the eye of Europe’s top teams, with Dortmund reported to be among them, but Zorc refused to be drawn on the rumours.
“The speculation about Fabian Schar being on his way to our club is one of many transfer rumours doing the rounds,” he told Bild.
“Most of the time, these transfer rumours turn out not to be true.”
Barcelona are reported to be monitoring Hummels’ situation and are keen to add the Germany international to their defensive options under Gerardo Martino.
