Dortmund have belief, says Reus

Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus said the Bundesliga club is confident, despite being drawn in a Champions League ‘group of death’.

Dortmund finished bottom of their group during last season’s campaign, and came third in their Europa League group the year before that, but Reus is confident that his new side can improve on their recent performances on the continent, despite facing Real Madrid, Manchester City and Ajax in the group stages.

“The Champions League is there to compete with the best. Many think that Dortmund have no chance in this group, but we believe in ourselves and know that anything is possible,” he told Bild.

Reus, who signed for the German champions from Borussia Moenchengladbach for around 17.5 million euros in July, attributes a great deal of his own potential to Juergen Klopp, and also believes that the coach has had a considerable impact on the collective spirit, too.

“I see no limit to my performances and can improve every day. Juergen Klopp is the right person to make us all better. With him in training, I learn things that I’ve not done before,” he added.

And the 2012 German Footballer of the Year also has big aims for his national side, who kicked off their qualification campaign for the 2014 World Cup with a 3-0 win over the Faroe Islands on Friday.

“It must be our goal (to be world champions). I want to win major titles. But we all agree that we still have a lot to learn before 2014 in order to win it,” he said.

Germany face Austria in their second qualifier on Tuesday.
