While on the verge of clinching the first Bundesliga title since 2012, Borussia Dortmund appear to be planning for the future without Jude Bellingham. According to Florian Plettenberg, they are in talks over a proposed transfer of Edson Alvarez from Ajax this summer.
Apparently, Alvarez is a good friend of Sebastien Haller, and the in-form striker is pushing for a deal to go through. The 25-year-old Mexico international is believed to be interested, impressed by Haller’s efforts to get him to the Signal Iduna Park.
Alvarez started his career with CF America in his homeland and joined Ajax in 2019 for a reported fee of €15 million. Since then, he’s gone on to make a total of 146 appearances.
A slightly different player than Bellingham, Alvarez mostly plays closer to his own goal than the opposition one. His quality is believed to be attracting the interests of a number of clubs across Europe, and Dortmund will want to wrap a deal up as soon as possible to avoid potential complications later.
❗️News #Alvarez: He and #Haller are still very good friends. Haller is pushing a lot for him and has talked to Alvarez many times in order to convince him joining #BVB in summer. Alvarez is impressed.
There is no verbal agreement between him and Dortmund yet but a transfer is… pic.twitter.com/IN3TjHxIjy
