Borussia Dortmund have been planning to mount a serious title challenge this season, but things aren’t going quite their way at the moment. They are currently in sixth place in the Bundesliga table, six points behind leaders Borussia Monchengladbach. According to Bild, they’ve identified the position of a backup striker as the one that needs strengthening the most, and that’s where they’ll be directing their efforts in January.
Dortmund are known to mostly go in for young players, but this time they want an experienced man that can step in and turn games around immediately. The names they are considering are Olivier Giroud of Chelsea, Mario Mandzukic of Juventus, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic who has already said goodbye to LA Galaxy.
Neither Giroud nor Mandzukic are having the best of seasons at their current clubs, with the Frenchman a fringe player at Chelsea under Frank Lampard and the Croatian completely out of a place in the Juventus team under Maurizio Sarri. Ibrahimovic has been linked recently with AC Milan.
