Jurgen Klopp slammed Borussia Dortmund’s lack of determination after his side slumped to a 1-0 Bundesliga defeat at Hertha Berlin.
A first-half strike from former Dortmund forward Julian Schieber was enough for Jos Luhukay’s side to overcome Klopp’s struggling side.
Despite enjoying plenty of possession at the Olympistadion, Dortmund were unable to make the pressure count and Klopp conceded that last-term’s runners-up are in dire straits ahead of the mid-season break.
“We have had too little determination in a game that means so much,” he said.
“The first half should not have happened because we played well in the game but we do not concentrate for the goal.
“This is completely the wrong way so we now have two more games until the winter break to improve our situation for the second half dramatically.”
Dortmund, who finished top of their UEFA Champions League group earlier this week, started promisingly in the capital, but were unable to trouble Hertha goalkeeper Thomas Kraft during a cagey first half.
And they were made to pay for their blunt attacking play when Jakub Blaszczykowski, making his first appearance since January after returning from injury as a substitute for the stricken Henrikh Mkhitaryan, lost possession in his own half to Per Ciljan Skjelbred.
The Norwegian broke swiftly through the visitors’ midfield before finding Schieber – a close-season signing from Dortmund – who produced an excellent driven finish to leave his ex-employers in the bottom three.
