Dortmund linked to veteran defender

German daily newspaper Bild has learned that Borussia Dortmund are exploring the possibility of signing defender Manuel Friedrich.

After key defender Neven Subotic has been ruled out for six months with a knee injury, Jurgen Klopp is desperately looking to sign a new centre-back as he only has Mats Hummels and Sokratis Papastathopoulos at his disposal.

According to Bild, the Millionaires are set to make a move on former Bayer Leverkusen stopper Manuel Friedrich.

The 34-year-old has been a free agent since leaving die Werkself in June, and he has since been staying fit by training with Rot-Weiss Oberhausen.

Jurgen Klopp knows the player well having coached him at Mainz, and he looks set to sign him on a short-term deal before adding a high-profile defender in January.

Borussia Dortmund seriously damaged their Bundesliga title hopes with a 2-1 defeat at Wolfsburg, and they are now no less than 5/1 for the league title.
