German media outlet Bild has learned that Borussia Dortmund are set to return to the negotiating table with Ilkay Gundogan’s representatives.
The Millionaires pulled off a major coup by tying down star player Marco Reus to a new deal in spite of heavy interest from abroad and they plan to do the same with his teammate.
Ilkay Gundogan will be out of contract in the summer of 2016, meaning Borussia will be forced to sell next summer if the midfielder opts against signing a new deal at Signal-Iduna Park.
Nevertheless, BVB officials are set to open new talks with the player’s agents, as confirmed by chief Hans-Joachim Watzke.
“Michael Zorc will certainly address the issue in the coming weeks,” Watzke told Bild.
With interest in his services cooling off in recent months, Gundogan is widely expected to extend his stay in Dortmund, especially after nailing down a regular starting berth.
The Millionaires face Juventus in the Champions League first knockout round and are available at 1/1 to qualify for the quarter-finals.
