Dortmund want Bayern to admit Lewandowski interest

Dortmund want Bayern Munich to 'lift their cover' regarding their reported interest in Robert Lewandowski.

Borussia Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke wants Bayern Munich to ‘lift their cover’ regarding their rumoured interest in the club’s in-form striker Robert Lewandowski, Sky Sports understands.

Lewandowski, 24, has also been linked with a move to Premier League giants Manchester United.

According to reports from several media outlets in Germany, the Poland international — whose current contract expires in 18 months — has already agreed to join Bayern Munich.

Sources claim that the transfer will be announced following the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal later this month, with Bayern scheduled to play host to the German champions at the Allianz Arena on 27 February.

However, both club’s have played down the reports, leading Dortmund general manager Hans-Joachim Watzke to ask for clarity from Bayern regarding their interest in the Dortmund front-man.

“The whole issue is really getting on my nerves,” said Watzke. “There are two scenarios: the first is that Bayern have no interest in Robert, in which case it’s all a load of rubbish.

“The other scenario is that they are interested, and then they have got to lift their cover at some stage and come to us with an enquiry.

“Bayern are usually correct and if they have any interest in a player, they will make contact.

“When they do that, they will get an answer. Maybe that would even surprise them, but as long as they carry on saying they have no interest or for as long as they don’t do anything, then we don’t care.

“Robert is playing here, playing very well too, and there is nothing more to say.”

Lewandowski has scored 20 goals in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund this season, while adding a respectable tally of eight assists.

In recent weeks, the likes of Christian Benteke and Mame Biram Diouf — formerly of Manchester United — have been linked with Dortmund, fueling speculation that the 24-year-old Poland international is set to leave Signal Iduna Park in the summer.

Only time will tell, but it looks as if Lewandowski will be searching for pastures new sooner rather than later.

Digne planning to stay at Lille despite Man United link

LOSC Lille left-back Lucas Digne is not planning to leave the club despite rumours linking him with a sensational move to Old Trafford, according to Sky Sports.

Digne, 19, is one of the most highly-rated youngsters in French football, which makes it rather surprising that he is not being monitored by Newcastle United.

Now then, the league leaders have been keeping a close eye on Digne this season, with first-choice left-back Patrice Evra not getting any younger.

The 31-year-old defender is the only Manchester United player to have started 25 out of 26 league matches for the club this season, and rightfully so.

He has been fantastic, both in defence and on corner routines. The Frenchman had scored just two league goals for the Red Devils prior to this season, in which he has netted four times, three from corners.

United’s other options at left-back are Alexander Buttner and Fabio, who is currently on loan at Queens Park Rangers.

Buttner has been impressive in short spells this season, but did look rather shaky at the back against Chelsea in the Capital One Cup earlier this season.

He looks a good player, but Sir Alex Ferguson might want an insurance policy for his insurance policy.

Meanwhile, Fabio — Rafael’s twin brother — has made 15 league appearances while on loan at QPR. The Brazil international scored in Rangers’ 4-2 loss to MK Dons in FA Cup last month.
