Dortmund’s deal for Mikel Merino falls through

Borussia Dortmund have missed out on the signing of Osasuna starlet Mikel Merino as the Spanish side pulled out of the deal, according to Marca.

The Millionaires had agreed a €5 million deal for the talented midfielder, but just as the transfer was set to be completed, los Rojillos decided the agreed fee was not sufficient.

In spite of the serious setback, Borussia Dortmund officials remain keen on luring Merino to Signal-Iduna Park this winter, and they have until Monday to try and find a new understanding with Osasuna.

The Millionaires decided to make a move after spending several months keeping close tabs on the 19-year-old footballer, widely regarded as the best player to have come out of club’s youth academy since Javi Martinez.

Despite his fragile age, Merino has already made a total of 50 league appearances for Osasuna in the second tier, scoring 2 goals in the process.
