Serie A club Juventus are unwilling to meet Liverpool’s demands for on-loan midfielder Alberto Aquilani.
Aquilani experienced an injury-riddled spell with the Liverpool outfit after arriving from hometown club Roma for 17 million pounds in August 2009.
After falling out of the first-team picture at the English Premier League club early this season, he was sent on loan to Juve by now-departed Reds coach Roy Hodgson.
The 26-year-old has expressed a desire to remain in Turin, despite Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish suggesting the Italian could return to Anfield next season.
But the midfielder, who has featured in 35 games this season for Luigi Del Neri’s man and won a recall to the Italy national squad, might not be granted his wish to remain in his homeland.
Juventus general manager Giuseppe Marotta has told Italian television the club would not be paying for the player’s 16 million pound buy-out clause.
“There is a buy-out clause that has to be activated by May 15,” Marotta told Sky Sport Italia.
“We’ll try to reach an agreement before the deadline. I can certainly say we will not sign Aquilani for the sum set by Liverpool.”
Aquilani has been capped by Italy 15 times.
