According to L’Equipe, Seydou Doumbia is set to join Spanish club Girona. The 30-year-old has fallen down the ranks of European football in recent years, from when he hit his peak with CSKA Moscow. He spent five years with the Russian club where he had a fantastic goals to game ratio, and now, he’ll be aiming to reach those heights again.
Doumbia had a three year spell with Roma but was never really given a chance to thrive in the first team set up, and he wound up heading out on loan with CSKA Moscow again, Newcastle United, Basel and Sporting CP.
Doumbia joined Sporting on a permanent deal just a few months ago, but already seems set to go elsewhere. He’s already completed his medical according to reports, and the move will be made official in the next few days. Sporting are coming off the back of a 1-1 draw against Benfica at the weekend.
