Downing completes West Ham switch

West Ham United have completed the signing of Liverpool’s Stewart Downing, according to the Mail Online.

The 26 year old, who held positive talks with Sam Allardyce over the weekend, will link up with former teammates Joe Cole and Andy Carroll at Upton Park after finalising a £6m move.

The Reds, under then manager Kenny Dalglish, paid Aston Villa £20m for the winger two years ago, but he largely failed to live up to expectation, falling out of favour following the appointment of Brendan Rodgers.

He did however impress during the second half of the 2012/13 campaign, when he played in every domestic game from the 3-1 defeat to Villa on December 15th to the end of the season – a run in which he scored his first league goals for the club.

Downing has 34 caps for England, but has not played for his country since the 1-0 friendly victory over Norway prior to the 2012 European Championships in Poland and Ukraine.
