Manchester United are keeping close tabs on Napoli forward Dries Mertens, according to Il Mattino.
The Azzurri plan to reward their star player with a new and improved deal for some scintillating displays in the centre forward role, with a contract until June 2021 worth €3 million per campaign currently being drafted.
However, having learned of the Manchester United interest in his services, Mertens may not be ready to pledge his future to the Stadio San Paolo outfit.
Not so long ago, the 29-year-old was considering a lucrative offer from China, but ultimately decided to remain with the Azzurri.
However, he now seems keen on moving to Old Trafford and Napoli are afraid they will not be able to keep hold of their prized asset beyond the current campaign.
Dries Mertens is enjoying his most successful season up to date, having bagged 19 goals in just 18 Serie A starts.
