A report from Talk Sport is today suggesting that Didier Drogba could be ready to make a return to the English Premier League after asking for FIFA’s permission to leave Shanghai Shenhua on loan outside of the transfer window.
The former Chelsea striker apparently wants to keep himself match fit following the end of the Chinese league season earlier this month and his ideal destination would be the Premier League.
The Ivory Coast international spent eight years at the Blues and scored the winning penalty in their Champions League victory back in may.
However, a move back to Stamford Bridge seems unlikely – especially after the sacking of Roberto Di Matteo earlier today.
As they usually are with any striker on the market, Liverpool are a team believed to be keen on landing the 34-year-old as they are of course short of options going forward.
Much now depends on whether FIFA do allow any deal to go through. If they do, then Drogba could be spoilt for choice in terms of where to spend a small part of the campaign.
Ligue 1 outfit Marseille, who are his former employers are also said to be monitoring his situation.
