Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has described the club’s current form slump as the worst he has known in his time at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have struggled in recent weeks and with injuries to key players like Frank Lampard, John Terry and Michael Essien, they have recorded just one win and a draw from their past five English Premier League fixtures.
And it does not get any easier for Carlo Ancelotti’s men, with games in December against Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and Everton.
Drogba insists their current form is as bad as he has seen since arriving at Chelsea from Marseille in July 2004.
“It is maybe the worst run of form I’ve known since I came to the club. It is not good,” Drogba said.
“It is very frustrating – very frustrating. I know that during the season you can have moments like this and try your best to change it.”
Drogba conceded Ancelotti was facing increased scrutiny over their poor performances in November, a month that also saw Chelsea sack respected assistant coach Ray Wilkins after a rumoured boardroom bust-up, and relinquish top spot in the league.
“It’s a lot to say the manager is under pressure because of the results,” Drogba said.
“But we are not winning and the teams behind us are coming back – and are even in front of us now.”
“Losing top spot, it’s not nice, obviously – to see that Manchester United are up front and Arsenal as well – but that’s the challenge. We have to see it as a challenge more than being disappointed.”
“You have to see it as a challenge and do everything to come back.”
And Drogba said he is working hard to get his name back on the scoresheet after a poor run of form in front of goal in recent weeks.
Since opening the season with a hat-trick against West Brom, the 32-year-old Ivorian has not found the net in the Premier League since Chelsea’s 2-0 win over Arsenal on October 4.
“It is not happening in front of goal. I had some moments where I didn’t even create chances and I was scoring,” he said.
“But now I’m creating maybe more chances than usual but I’m a bit unlucky.”
“The most important thing is not that I am not scoring but that we are losing points.”
