French newspaper L’Equipe has revealed that Shanghai Shenhua striker Didier Drogba could join Marseille on a short-term loan.
Despite being heavily linked with a move to Serie A, the Ivorian forward is not interested in ending his ties with the Chinese club.
However, with the season in China now finished, he has expressed his desire to join another club on a loan deal until the start of 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
Considering that the transfer window does not open until January, Drogba would have to request a special permission from FIFA in order to be granted his wish.
Chelsea and Juventus would be delighted to see the veteran forward in their ranks, but a return to Marseille is a more realistic option.
With both Andre-Pierre Gignac and Loic Remy on the sidelines, the French giants could really use a player of Drogba’s quality at the moment.
The 34-year-old has been in fine form since moving to China, scoring 8 goals in 11 appearances.
