According to Emirates 24/7, Dubai has been named the host city for the 2011 Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup that will take place from November 22-26 at the Jumeirah Beach Residence.
Dr. Ahmed Al Sharif, secretary-general of the Dubai Sports Council, admitted that it was an ‘honour’ for Dubai to be chosen to host the tournament.
“The honour of being named third best sports city in the world is not only a success for the Emirates but also for all those who reside in Dubai,” said Dr. Ahmed Al Sharif.
Joan Cusco, CEO of Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW), said,”I’ve built a special relationship with people here in Dubai. When we wanted to find a host for the Intercontinental Cup, we approached Dubai Sports Council, which readily agreed to host the event.”
“This is a unique cup. Even though the event is smaller (than the World Cup) the potential is bigger and I want this event to be a celebration of the World Cup success,” added Cusco.
The tournament will include two groups, with the winners of each group advancing to the final.
The “group” stage will take three days to complete and will be conducted via the round robin system.
As mentioned above, Samsung will be the main sponsor for the event, continuing their three year partnership with Beach Soccer Worldwide (BSWW).
“Beach soccer is an extremely fast growing and dynamic sport in the UAE and this partnership demonstrates our ongoing commitment to the development of youth and sports in the region and our passion for the game of football,” said Head of Corporate Marketing at Samsung Gulf Electronics Marco Vocale.
“An event such as the Samsung Beach Soccer Intercontinental Cup 2011 is a great opportunity to connect with consumers and give back to communities in a fun and engaging way. Once again, Samsung is taking ownership of the sports platform a step further by creating new and engaging experiences that meet the passion and interests of youth today,” added Vocale.
Cusco hailed Samsung’s involvement in successfully connecting people throughout Dubai and the United Arab Emirates.
“This involvement and contribution from a company like Samsung Gulf Electronics will bring a new level of excitement and experience to beach football fans and an opportunity to connect with people across the region,” said Cusco.
Thanks to Samsung and other sponsors, this event is completely free. Yes you read that correctly, free!
The competition will run for a total of five days and will include music from local DJ’s.
The event will also include Canary Islands Cheerleaders, numerous Beach Soccer Clinics, activities, promotions and special giveaways.
For those who can attend, please do. Events like this only come around so often and they are never free of charge with no strings attached.
