Former Manchester United and England striker Dion Dublin has called for Paul Scholes to make another comeback to feature in Euro 2012.
Scholes, 37, has been in inspirational form since coming out of retirement to Old Trafford in January and has been tipped by many to make Stuart Pearce’s squad for the friendly game against the Netherlands on February 29.
Despite his last international appearance coming in Euro 2004, Scholes has since admitted his regret at not participating in more major tournaments for England.
And, though Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled it out, both potential England manager Harry Redknapp and former international Dublin said he believes he should return.
When asked whether Scholes could compete at international level again, Dublin said: “I can see that.”
“I imagine if you took a poll of players, there wouldn’t be many who didn’t want Paul Scholes in their side. He defies age.”
“He hasn’t lost any passion for the game. He has an aura about him that makes you think he can do anything. He is a very special player.”
“I am not surprised how easily he has adapted back to the game.”
Interim boss Stuart Pearce is set to announce his squad for this month’s friendly on Thursday.
