Fernand Duchaussoy was reelected president of the French Football Federation with a landslide majority on Saturday.
The 67-year-old, appointed caretaker president after his predecessor Jean-Pierre Escalette resigned in July in the wake of France’s World Cup fiasco, received 79.4 percent of the vote at the FFF’s annual general meeting.
“I thank you for your confidence,” Duchaussoy said.
His new term of office runs until June, 2011.
Duchaussoy was a virtual ‘shoe-in’ for the job after his main rival, FFF vice-president Noel Le Graet, pulled out of the race on Friday.
Duchaussoy was reelected after a tumultuous five months in office which saw suspensions dished out to the ringleaders of the France national team’s infamous World Cup training strike, the sacking of coach Raymond Domenech, and the resignations of three key FFF members, including new Aston Villa boss Gerard Houllier.
He stood for relection on the back of a promise to oversee a reform of French football’s governing body.
