Real Madrid goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek is facing six weeks on the sidelines after breaking his jaw in their 4-0 Champions League win over Auxerre.
The 37-year-old was forced off with the injury just before half-time in Wednesday’s game after he collided with Auxerre striker Roy Contout.
It was Dudek’s first start for Real this season, and he is now expected to be out of action for around six weeks according to a statement from the club’s website.
“After abandoning Wednesday’s match against Auxerre due to a hard knock to the face, Jerzy Dudek was transported to Sanitas La Moraleja Hospital, where a series of X-rays and a CAT Scan revealed a fractured mandible,” the statement read.
“The goalkeeper is expected to miss approximately six weeks pending an assessment by a maxillofacial surgeon in the next 24 hours.”
