FC Twente advanced to the Dutch Cup final with a 1-0 triumph over 10-man FC Utrecht on Wednesday.
Austrian striker Marc Janko proved the hero for Twente in the 77th minute, finishing off Luuk de Jong’s clever interception with a deft strike between the legs of Utrecht goalkeeper Michel Vorm.
Janko’s 15th goal of the season was a cruel blow for the visitors, who had done well to keep a clean sheet after losing right-back Tim Cornelisse to a second caution in just the 20th minute.
Cornelisse was sent off for striking Janko with his elbow as both players challenged for a header, five minutes after first entering referee Pol van Boekel’s book.
Twente will face the winner of Thursday’s semi-final between defending champions Ajax and second-division club RKC Waalwijk.
