PSV Eindhoven are through to the Dutch Cup fourth round while fellow Eredivisie side NAC Breda narrowly avoided humiliation.
Breda, bottom three in the Netherlands top flight, were pitted against amateur side HBS Craeyenhout for their third-round clash and the unthinkable occurred 37 minutes in when Sami Aoulad Said silenced the home crowd with a goal for the rank outsiders.
Another 34 nervous minutes of playing time passed before Breda finally equalised courtesy of Anthony Lurling and they eventually scraped through by the skin of their teeth 4-2 on penalties, saving themselves considerable blushes in the process.
PSV had far fewer troubles in dispensing of third division outfit EHC Hoensbroek 3-1 with goals from Memphis Depay, Georgino Wijnaldum and Gianluca Maria sealing the deal.
Vitesse Arnhem and Ajax Amsterdam also breezed through to the next round with the former routing amateur side Staphorst 4-0 while Ajax accounted for another amateur outfit ONS Sneek 2-0.
In other results, Heracles defeated Sparta Rotterdam 2-0 and PEC Zwolle came from behind to beat RKC Waalwijk 4-2.
Scheduled fixtures between Heerenveen and Hollandia, Sneek and AZ Alkmaar, Twente Enschede and FC Den Bosch and XerxesDZB and Feyenoord Rotterdam were all postponed.
