AZ Alkmaar forward Brett Holman admits that he would be interested in leaving the club if the right offer comes along.
The Australian has been an integral part of the side that climbed to the top of Eredivisie standings, but he is now looking to join a club bigger than AZ.
“Of course I have ambitions. If there is a good club from a big league who are interested in me, then I am open to a new adventure,” Holman told Voetbal International.
“I have a Dutch wife and child and we’re fine here. I know I must respect AZ’s wishes, but if the proposal is good, I must seriously think about it.”
Coach Gertjan Verbeek understands that the club may not be able to keep hold of their prized asset.
“Brett has signed a contract here in good time. Then he fell in the 30 per cent tax regime but that is now 52 per cent, so even if we offer him the same – and that’s quite a challenge – then his salary drops in real terms.
“Let me be clear that Holman is someone we would really like to keep at AZ, but the limits of what we can afford are currently unclear.”
