Tipped by many to be one of the leading contenders to jump straight back up to the Premier League, West Brom will travel to Deepdale on Saturday to face a Preston side drastically short of form.
Starting with Alex Neil’s Preston side, after crashing out of the League Cup in midweek courtesy of a penalties defeat to Middlesbrough, it has been an incredibly poor start to the season for Preston. Already sat bottom of the Championship table, their 18 goals conceded this season means they currently hold the worst defensive record the division. Still looking for their first win in the league this season, Preston have also now lost their last four matches on the bounce. More worrying for the former Norwich boss, they have also shipped two or more goals in each of their defeats.
As for the visitors, while the Baggies are coming off the back of a 3-0 loss to Premier League outfit Fulham in midweek, it has been an impressive start to the season for Darren Moore’s side. Aside from slipping to a shock 2-1 loss to Bolton in their opening matchup, the Baggies have now unbeaten in their last four league outings. One man to thank for their resurge has been the form of Newcastle loanee Dwight Gayle. Since moving on a one-season loan deal from St. James’ the 27-year-old now has five already and also four in his last four.
