“I’ve always been clear, my preference was always to stay here”.

Those are the words of Juventus forward Paulo Dybala, who confirmed that he never really wanted to leave the Old Lady in the wake of his goal against Inter Milan this weekend. Dybala was seemingly set on making his way out of Turin in favour of finding some more consistent first team opportunities. However, despite that seemingly being the mission statement, he has now turned around and declared otherwise.

While this could purely be a PR move on behalf of Juve, it’s certainly interesting to note that he is saying this immediately after scoring an important goal. Professional footballers are known for being pretty fickle creatures and while Dybala is highly respected within the game as a world class forward, that doesn’t necessarily mean his primary motivation isn’t the financial side of the game.

In truth, a lot of it depends on what happens between now and January.
