Dzeko claims City will improve

Four-goal hero Edin Dzeko believes the best is yet to come from Manchester City after they hammered Tottenham 5-1 at White Hart Lane.

The former Wolfsburg striker was rampant as he and debutant Samir Nasri helped put Spurs to the sword with a ruthless display of attacking football on Sunday.

Nasri supplied the crosses for Dzeko to score his first two goals and he also played his part in the run up to Sergio Aguero’s strike, which made it 4-0 with half an hour left.

Younes Kaboul headed home a consolation goal for Tottenham, but the afternoon belonged to Dzeko, who clinched his hat-trick with the last kick of the match.

“I think the last time I scored four was for Wolfsburg in Germany,” the Bosnia-Herzegovina international said on ESPN.

“Today was something special for me, to score four goals in the Premier League is fantastic.”

“I think we’re getting better and better. I hope we can improve in the next game and try to win every game.”

Mancini was happy with the player’s contribution.

“I was sure that Edin could score a lot of goals this season because he now knows the Premier League very well.”

“Before now, he was always scoring at Wolfsburg and has scored wherever he has played.”

Despite not getting carried away by the result, the Italian did insist that his side beat a “fantastic” team and the only aspect of the match he was disappointed in was the conceding of the Spurs goal.

“I think we played a really good game against Tottenham that I think is a fantastic team,” Mancini said.

“I am only disappointed about conceding the goal like we did because I think we need to pay more attention in this situation.”

Nasri claimed the win was a signal to the other challengers for the Premier League, but Mancini is staying fairly neutral, pointing out that the season is a marathon, rather than a sprint.

“I think this season is very, very long,” he explained.

“It was important that we started the season very well, now we have lots of players going off to play for their national team for 10 days, so we can’t see all the players for about 10 days, so next game will probably be very hard because now everyone thinks we can score three of four in every match, but that is not possible.”

“At the moment I think we have to work to play like today and at the end of the season we will see what we have achieved.”
