Dzeko to stay at City

Striker Edin Dzeko will stay at Manchester City as he still has unfinished business at the Etihad Stadium.

Dzeko faces serious competition to get into the squad next season, let alone the first team, if manager Roberto Mancini buys players such as Eden Hazard and Robin van Persie.

Dzeko contributed 14 goals towards City’s title-winning campaign, including a bullet header to bring the score to 2-2 in the dramatic last-gasp win over QPR on the final day.

Mancini often preferred to use Sergio Aguero, Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez as his main striking options but despite the rumours that he could join Italian champions Juventus, the 26-year-old is determined to prove his critics wrong and fire City to a second successive title.

He told Sky Sports: “No, it’s not worrying me because I think I’ve shown that I can play at Man City and that I deserve to play. I’ve scored some very important goals.”

Dzeko, who is expected to line up for Bosnia-Herzegovina in their international friendlies this week, added: “I’m still at Manchester City. For Man City I’m not thinking about my future. I’m just thinking about the games against Ireland and Mexico.

“The coach decides who plays and I respect that. I always tried to do my best all season, even when I didn’t play.

“At the end I scored a goal, maybe one of the most important goals in City’s history, and I’m so proud of that.”
