Dzeko welcomes Tevez competition

Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko says he does not feel under pressure to perform, despite the return of Carlos Tevez.

Bosnia international Dzeko found the net in City’s 3-0 English Premier League win over Blackburn on Saturday, notching his 18th goal of the season.

Argentina international Tevez this week returned to City training after apologising for his part in a falling out with manager Roberto Mancini.

Rather than feel threatened, Dzeko believes Tevez’s availability can only help City during the Premier League title run-in.

“It’s not pressure, it’s just that he can bring quality to the team,” Dzeko said.

“We are all one team trying to play together and it’s good that we scored three because in the end goal difference could be the key.”

“It’s good you have so many quality players around you, and that they are all getting better.”

Dzeko, 25, had to settle for a place on the bench against Blackburn, with Mancini favouring Mario Balotelli from the start.

“Of course (it is frustrating), when you have scored so many goals,” Dzeko said when asked about being named among the substitutes.

“OK, sometimes you can play badly, but in the end it’s the decision of the manager and I respect that.”

“We won 3-0 so no-one has to say anything. My goals are talking for me, so I’m happy.”

Dzeko is also confident City can go on to lift the Premier League title, but says they have to be at their best, with rivals Manchester United expected to provide fierce competition.

“When you see the players like Aguero, (David) Silva and Yaya (Toure) and the others, you think, ‘Wow, we have to win this’ and with these players we can do it, because they are amazing,” he said.

“It’s still 12 games (remaining) and we have to try to win every one, then we are surely on top. It won’t be easy because United are just behind us, but we will see.”
