Montenegro defender Miodrag Dzudovic has denied sending a letter to UEFA backing Wayne Rooney’s appeal to overturn his three-match Euro 2012 ban.
Rooney is poised to miss the group stage of next summer’s tournament after his red card for kicking out at Dzudovic, and the England and Manchester United striker recently revealed he hopes his opponent backed his appeal.
However, Dzudovic claims his initial comments to a Russian newspaper have been taken out of context.
“The source of all this is one of the newspapers in Russia, which published that I wrote some kind of letter to UEFA, but this can’t be further away from truth,” he told Vijesti.
“That newspaper started an initiative, there were some Manchester United fans involved in all this.”
“The editor asked me, if I want to support them and I said yes, why not, but it is a lie that I wrote a letter of support to UEFA.”
