Deportivo Quito midfielder Fidel Martinez says he is flattered by interest from a club like Benfica.

The Portuguese giants have been alerted of the player’s potential and they are reportedly pondering a January bid for his services.

The 21-year-old player who has two Ecuador caps to his name admits he would jump at the opportunity to join the Eagles.

“Benfica? A great team! I would like to play there, with Luisao, who played for Cruzeiro, just like me,” Martinez told A Bola.

“In the summer, the president of my club, Fernando Mantilla, informed me of this interest and possibility, both from Benfica and Pachuca, but told me to be calm and mature, because it was too early.

”I am proud that these clubs want me, and the truth is that the league ends on 17 December.”

The young midfielder is capable of playing on either wing and is seen as a great replacement for Nicolas Gaitan, who is wanted by a number of high-profile clubs.
