Belgian whizz-kid Eden Hazard has revealed via his Twitter page that he is set to join European Champions Chelsea this summer.
He had already made everybody aware that he was moving this summer but has kept everybody in suspense about his destination until now.
Talented
Eden Hazard is rated as one of the best up-and coming stars in European football. Most of the top European clubs have been tracking the youngster at one point or another. The 21 year-old is very much a midfielder playmaker but he can also score goals.
Choice
He’s been linked with a move away from French Ligue One side for a few summers now and it seems he will finally get one this summer. Hazard is rated in the £35million bracket and is set to join the Blues on a bumper contract.
Hazard was believed to have had the choice of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United. There was speculation late last week that United were not too happy with his massive wages demands. He revealed the decision by writing on his Twitter page: “ I’m signing for the champion’s league winner.”
Strange
I think it’s a really strange decision for Hazard to join Chelsea. The Blues haven’t even confirmed whether Roberto Di Matteo will be given the job on a full-time basis, yet they are doing massive deals to sign players.
Also Hazard could arrive at Chelsea and the new manager may not see him in his plans. Then Chelsea is stuck with a multi-million pound benchwarmer. This deal was obviously done by the Chelsea hierarchy.
When the club signed the likes of Andrei Shevchenko and Fernando Torres it was on the say so of owner Roman Abramovich. They were not signed by the manager but the Russian oligarch. Both players were big names but both failed to live up to their reputation and price tags.
Games
The key factor in his decision to join Chelsea may have been the fact that he will probably get to play more first team games at Stamford Bridge than at the Etihad Stadium. City already have a plethora of midfield options and they are only likely to sign more this summer.
I think however that he is just the sort of player that Manchester United have been crying out for. The Red Devils have lacked creativity from midfield and had to call Paul Scholes out of retirement earlier this season they were struggling that badly for midfield options.
I thought Manchester United would have been the better choice for the youngster. He definitely would have got regular first team football for Sir Alex Ferguson’s side. Maybe United didn’t offer him as much money as Chelsea did.
Attitude
I can’t confess to knowing Eden Hazard personally but he hasn’t put himself across in a very good light over his move in the last couple of months. He has been talking about a move with very little thought about his present clubs supporters.
I have a feeling that he may have a big ego to go with his big talent. I just hope for Chelsea’s sake that he doesn’t unsettle the dressing room. The Chelsea squad is full of big ego’s though, so I think he will be put in his place very quickly if he does step out of line.
Good
Despite my question marks about his attitude I still think that Eden Hazard will be a good signing for Chelsea. The attacking midfielder has been linked with the likes of Barcelona and Real Madrid in the past and for the Blues to sign him is something of a coup.
Hopefully he will settle down quickly in the Premier League and we will see the Belgian international blossom into the player that his potential promises he will be.
