American midfielder Maurice Edu is set to complete his move to Rangers after being granted a work permit on Friday.
Edu, 22, agreed a five-year contract with the Scottish club last week and his 2.6 million pounds (3.2 million euros) switch from Major League Soccer outfit Toronto can now go through.
Edu becomes the third midfielder signed by boss Walter Smith in the last week following the captures of Pedro Mendes from Portsmouth and Steven Davis from Fulham.
Former Celtic and Rangers star Maurice Johnston, who is manager and director of football at Edu's former club FC Toronto, helped persuade the United States international to make the move to Glasgow.
“I'm excited about this new chapter in my career,” Edu said. “Toronto FC will always have special meaning for me because it's the club that gave me my professional start.”
