Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio has made it clear that he will not be leaving Estadio da Luz ahead of the 2018 World Cup.
The 27-year-old has been linked with quite a few top clubs in the past, but he now has a good reason to remain with the Eagles until the end of the season.
Namely, Salvio returned to the national team for the crucial 2018 World Cup qualifiers, and having started the final match against Ecuador, he hopes to make Argentina’s World Cup squad.
The highly rated footballer doesn’t want to damage his chances of getting on the plane to Russia by leaving Benfica midway through the season.
“I am happy with my team and, until the World Cup, there will not be any movement on my part to leave,” Salvio said on Argentine radio station Guemes 1050 AM.
“I have an expectation from the World Cup that you cannot imagine. I have waited so long for this moment. The national team is the highlight.”
Eduardo Salvio has been in fine form this season, scoring 2 goals in 6 Primeira Liga appearances for Benfica.
