Eidur Gudjohnsen joins Belgian minnows

Former Chelsea forward Eidur Gudjohnsen has joined Belgian Pro Jupiler League side Cercle Brugge on a free transfer.

The Belgian club has announced on their official website that the Icelandic footballer has signed a contract until the end of the season after successfully passing a medical.

The 34-year-old had been searching for a new club since his contract with AEK Athens ended in the summer.

Gudjohnsen joined Seattle Super Sounders for a trial in September, but the MLS side opted against adding him to their ranks.

The former Iceland international ultimately decided to accept the offer from the club that currently sit at the bottom of the standings in Belgium’s top flight.

Cercle Brugge have thus become the player’s 12th club in his professional career that included spells at Chelsea, Barcelona and Tottenham Hotspur among other clubs.
