Spanish daily newspaper Marca is reporting that Real Madrid and Barcelona are locked in the battle for Flamengo wonderkid Vinicius Junior.
Despite his fragile age, the 16-year-old has already signed a professional contract with the Brazilian giants that includes a €30 million release clause.
This is likely to prove a very good decision for Flamengo as the youngster has caught the eye of quite a few top clubs with his scintillating performances at the Under-17 South American Championship.
Vinicius scored 5 goals in 6 appearances for the Brazil Under-17 side, impressing numerous scouts in the process, and he is already being linked with a big club move.
Real Madrid representatives have been speaking about the youngster as the player who appears every 10 or 20 years, but los Blancos will have to wait until the attacker turns 18 before they can lure him to Santiago Bernabeu.
That doesn’t mean they will sit tight for another year and a half, but they are rather expected to establish initial contacts with Flamengo and Vinicius Junior’s representatives in the coming weeks.
As that usually happens, their arch rivals Barcelona are also keeping close tabs on the Brazilian, who could follow in Neymar’s footsteps to spark a genuine tug of war in the transfer market.
