El Clasico rivals vying for Mallorca starlet

El Mundo Deportivo is reporting that Real Madrid and Barcelona are locked in the battle for Mallorca midfielder Marco Asencio.

The 18-year-old has impressed in his first ever senior season, catching the eye of Spain’s top clubs as well as Manchester City and Fiorentina in the process.

According to IB3 TV, Real Madrid lead the chase at the moment as they are reportedly ready to meet his €4 million release clause.

Considering that his buy-out clause is due to increase after the summer, los Blancos hope to wrap up the deal as quickly as possible.

Real Madrid could then decide to loan the player back to Mallorca and allow him to gain some first team experience, but much will depend on whether the Islanders can return to La Liga.

Marco Asencio has made a total of 12 league appearances for the club this season, starting 5 of those games and scoring one goal.
