Iain Hume, the Barnsley and Canada striker who was left with a fractured skull after being elbowed by Sheffield United defender Chris Morgan two weeks ago, has been readmitted to hospital, his club said Tuesday.
Hume, 25, returned to hospital after complaining of feeling unwell seven days after he was released following emergency surgery which had left him fearing he could die.
The player, who is considering legal action against Morgan, suffered the injury during Barnsley’s 2-1 home defeat to local rivals Sheffield United on November 8.
Morgan was booked for his challenge by referee Andy D’Urso but could yet face further disciplinary action by the Football Association on the basis of video evidence submitted by Barnsley.
In an interview last week, Hume revealed that he had pleaded with D’Urso for protection from Morgan, who he said had caught him with his elbow in previous matches.
