Werder Bremen winger Eljero Elia is widely tipped to leave the club on permanent basis in the summer, Bild can reveal.
The Dutch midfielder was loaned to Southampton after struggling for playing time at Weserstadion and he has enjoyed a bright start to his career in England.
Elia started seven Premier League fixtures while making another substitute appearance, scoring two goals in the process.
Everything suggests that Southampton will eventually activate the buy-out clause, which is valid until May.
But, even if the Saints opt against signing the former Netherlands international on a permanent deal, other Premier League sides seem ready to pounce.
Werder chief Thomas Eichin claims Southampton are happy with Elia’s contribution this season, while it is clear the Bundesliga side aim to cash in on the midfielder given that his contract is due to expire in just over a year.
The 28-year-old made a name for himself at Twente, whereas he also played for Hamburg and Juventus before joining Werder Bremen.
