Elmander nears Ligue 1 return

Ligue 1 outfit Bastia are pondering an offer for Swedish striker Johan Elmander, L’Equipe has revealed.

The experienced forward is set to become a free agent as his contract at Norwich is due to expire and he will not be offered a new deal by the Canaries.

According to L’Equipe, the 33-year-old could be returning to French Ligue 1, with Bastia reportedly keen on his services.

The same source has suggested that new les Bleus coach Claude Makelele is eager to sign Elmander this summer and has already enquired about the Sweden international.

Johan Elmander has spent last season at Carrow Road having joined Norwich from Galatasaray, but he could only manage 1 goal in 29 Premier League appearances.

The highly rated forward had earlier enjoyed two very successful seasons at Toulouse between 2006 and 2008, having made a total of 64 league outings for le Tefece and scored 22 goals in the process.
