Fallen former Australian international Ahmad Elrich has been refused bail over 11 gun offences and will face a Sydney court in June.
Australian publication the Parramatta Advertiser has reported that Elrich faced court last Friday after being stopped by police while on his Harley Davidson motorbike.
Police have alleged that in the process of the stop, they discovered two pistols and ammunition as well as the prescription erectile dysfunction drug Cialis.
Elrich fronted court with his father and was refused bail in the grounds he had allegedly committed a serious offence and there was a concern he represented a flight risk.
He will appear again on June 17 over the charges, until which time he will remain in custody.
It is the most dramatic chapter in the decline of the 29-year-old midfielder’s career.
He represented Australia at the 2004 Olympics and played 17 games for the Socceroos. He missed out on selection for the 2006 World Cup squad. He also had a spell at EPL club Fulham and played in Korea and Norway.
A series of knee injuries curtailed his hopes of playing a major role for A-League clubs Wellington Phoenix and Central Coast Mariners and he has been without a club for over a year.
Elrich’s brother Tarek plays for the Newcastle Jets in the Australian top flight.
