Valencia coach Unai Emery has paid tribute to Valencia’s fans on the eve of Tuesday’s Copa del Rey fixture against local rivals Villarreal.
Emery’s side host Villarreal at the Mestalla on Tuesday in the first leg of their round of 16 tie.
Up for grabs is a spot in the Copa del Ray quarter-finals, with the winner to face either Sevilla or Malaga in the next stage.
Emery has urged his players to enjoy the game with their fans, and predicted the hometown support would be enough to see his side over the line.
“It’s a derby, a game that excites them as much as it does us,” Emery said.
“As well as being an attractive tie, it is motivating and a good challenge.”
“We have the chance to enjoy the game with our supporters. It is the end of the year and we really want to give the fans a fitting tribute.”
“Our fans have been to Villarreal. We can see how prepared they are to follow their team.”
“Tomorrow at Mestalla they will feel comfortable because they are at home, and we have to offer them a good feeling with our performance on the pitch.”
“We need maximum dedication, as they expect of us, and will be looking to play a good game. That is the way to go in order to win. We want the fans to be proud of their team.”
“We are going to show character in the game. We really want to win and tomorrow the fans will be supporting us at home, where they feel at ease and where they want to be.”
