Emery undecided on future

Valencia head coach Unai Emery hinted he will leave the club at the end of the season after sealing Champions League football on Saturday.

Valencia tied up third spot and an automatic berth in the competition after their goalless draw with Villarreal in La Liga, but despite the achievement opinion on Emery remains divided.

The 40-year-old has been criticised this season, particularly in the wake of their semi-final exit from the Europa League last month, but also for their domestic form which trailed off after a strong start.

“Our pleasure comes with what we have achieved here, the main goal, sealing the third spot and Champions League qualification for third year in a row. It’s not easy,” Emery said.

“For us, the effort has been tremendous. Plus we’ve performed well in the rest of the competitions, which are the most emotive ones for the fans because you have the possibility to reach a final.

“But of course we can always improve.

“We did a good job here and personally, I think this was my best season at Valencia. Third spot, Champions League qualification and two semi-finals (in Copa del Rey and Europa league).

Emery said he was delighted to still have a job and see the progress his side had made over his four-year journey, but he did not rule out a potential move to Russia.

“I feel that we’ve been improving over the years which delights me,” he said.

“And, it isn’t easy, especially here in Valencia, where the fans are demanding, which is good as well. It sets you kind of goal based on popular ambitions.

“I’m happy but I don’t like to exaggerate my feelings. But I’m delighted and satisfied. I’m lucky because I have a job, I coach and I do it on a professional level.

“So I feel fortunate for that. So I’ll make the most of this by keeping doing the same. Where? (to move) I don’t know. But excited, and yes, Spartak Moscow its one of the serious options I have.”
