The newly appointed Arsenal manager Unai Emery is keen on bringing Barcelona’s Andre Gomes to the Emirates, according to The Independent.
The former Sevilla and Paris Saint-Germain boss would even be willing to sanction sales of other squad members in order to secure the funds needed to make it happen.
Emery is looking past Gomes’ unsuccessful stint at Barcelona and he sees a player well-suited for the way he wants his midfield to function. Arsenal’s main problem with signing players this summer is a limited budget, but that wasn’t a problem for them to secure the arrivals of Stephan Lichtsteiner as a free player and the likes of defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos and goalkeeper Bernd Leno. Midfielder Lucas Torreira is also expected to arrive as soon as he ends his World Cup adventure with Uruguay.
One of the club’s two goalkeepers from previous seasons is likely to make way for the former Bayer Leverkusen stopper, if not both, and that would go some way in providing some funds for new deals.
