As the transfer deadline (31 August 2011) approaches, football business will be at an all-time high for the summer. This weekend has already seen a few more moves going through, some surprising, but definitely necessary. Amongst many other moves, Emiliano Insua, Joey Barton, and Goran Pandev have found new clubs for the 2011-12 season.
Left-back Emiliano Insua set for Portuguese switch
Since arriving at Anfield in 2006, Insua made 62 appearances for the Merseysiders, netting one goal. The 22-year-old Argentine international was loaned out to Turkish giants Galatasaray in 2010-11. He made 19 appearances for the club, 16 of which came in the Turkish Süper Lig. The arrival of former Newcastle United defender Jose Enrique has made Insua expendable in the eyes of Kenny Dalglish.
Insua addressed Sporting’s official website following his move to Portugal.
“I am delighted to start training and playing here.
“Sporting is one of the big Portuguese clubs and is recognised for having top players. The club is always looking to win titles. I will give everything for Sporting.”
Twitter connoisseur joins Queens Park Rangers
The infamous Joey Barton has officially joined Queens Park Rangers from Newcastle United after penning a four-year-deal with the Hoops. Barton, who has never shyed away from the spotlight or controversy, was in the last year of his contract with the Magpies.
Now that his move has finally gone through, Barton is rather relieved.
“It’s been quite a whirlwind, so to get things finally sorted and draw a line under it all is a great relief,” Barton said.
“There’s obviously a great set of lads here already and that’s why they had such a great season in the Championship.
“The gaffer is talking about adding two or three more bodies and that, combined with the potential of the club and the new owners’ ambitions, bodes
really well for the future.”
Queens Park Rangers’ manager Neil Warnock is thrilled with his club’s signing, and rightfully so. Barton gives QPR much needed quality, ambition, and experience in the heart of midfield.
“We’ve got a very, very good player on our hands,” Warnock said.
“He’s coming here to show people what he can do. He wants to get back into the England team.
“He’s very enthusiastic. People will say one or two things about him but they’ve said stuff about me in the past too, so I won’t worry about that.”
Inter Milan Striker set for loan move, despite loss of Samuel Eto’o
In a move that screams that Inter are still searching for a replacement to Cameroonian striker Samuel Eto’o, the Nerazzurri loaned out Goran Pandev to Napoli. Pandev is obviously out of favour with new boss Gian Piero Gasperini, but remains under contract at the San Siro until 2014. In two years at Inter, Pandev has appeared in 67 games, netting an agonizing eight goals.
After joining the Champions League bound Italian side on a one year loan deal, Pandev said: “I am very happy to be able to play in the Champions League with a club like Napoli. They are a very important club.”
