Enyimba coach Okey Emordi thinks his side can shrug off poor form in the return leg of their African Champions League semi-final with WAC Casablanca.
Enyimba, the two-time champions, need to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg in Casablanca to move into the final, and have lost their past four matches.
Despite that form, Emordi said their underdog status will be an advantage against their north African visitors on Sunday, and he is confident of a win.
“It is even to our advantage if our opponents (WAC) think we are no longer strong,” Emordi told Cafonline.com.
“We are presently in good shape. To a relative extent, we are almost certain of winning. Though it is hard to predict such matches, I can say with every sense of humility that the only thing that can stop us is luck.”
“Sometimes, you do beyond human capabilities and still concede vital goals. So, while we have prepared very well; we also rely on elements of luck to seal our qualification for the final.”
In a statement released on WAC’s official website on Saturday, the Moroccan club, which arrived in Nigeria on Thursday, complained of the poor state of the training field Enyimba offered them.
Despite the poor conditions, WAC are confident of victory on Sunday.
“Coach Michel Decastel supervised WAC first training session on Friday on a pitch in a very catastrophic state which Enyimba gave to us as a training facility,” the statement read.
“We had to make do with it. Most of our injured players are up and we hope to win tomorrow to book our spot in the final.”
