England goalkeeper James set for Celtic talks

England goalkeeper David James will hold talks with Celtic on Monday over a possible move to Parkhead from Portsmouth, the Scottish side’s coach Neil Lennon said on Saturday.

James’ future has remained uncertain since his contract with relegated Pompey expired at the end of last season.

Lennon, who has already signed five new players this summer and has promised more to come, will get his chance to persuade tne 39-year-old James to ply his trade north of the border.

“He’s hopefully coming up on Monday to have talks and look at the place and we’ll take it from there,” Lennon told Sky Sport News.”

Earlier, Sunderland manager Steve Bruce revealed he is interested in signing James and keeping him in the English Premier League.

Bruce is looking for a keeper as cover for Scotland international Craig Gordon, who is likely to be sidelined for three months with a broken arm.

Gordon suffered the injury in training recently, leaving Bruce with few options as senior reserve stopper Marlon Fulop wants to leave the Stadium of Light.
