England names squad for Montenegro

Fabio Capello has named his 24-man squad for England’s final Euro 2012 qualifier in Montenegro on Friday.

The Italian knows his team only need a point to seal qualification for the finals in Poland and Ukraine.

Tottenham’s Kyle Walker, who scored the winner in the north London derby against Arsenal on Sunday, has been rewarded with a place in the squad.

Bobby Zamora – who also netted on Sunday for Fulham – is also included, as is Manchester United’s Danny Welbeck after impressing with a goal-scoring comeback from injury against Norwich on Saturday.

Capello has named Turkey-based goalkeeper Scott Carson as the replacement for the injured Rob Green, with Manchester United defender Phil Jones also keeping his spot in the squad.

Jones’ United team-mate and former England captain Rio Ferdinand has not been called up, while Capello’s squad has also come too quickly for Liverpool midfielder Steven Gerrard on his return to fitness.

England regulars Wayne Rooney, Darren Bent and Andy Carroll will be competing with Zamora and Welbeck for the starting berths up front, and Frank Lampard will be hoping for a leading role after his hat-trick against Bolton on Sunday.
