Premier League action continues on Wednesday, May 2 with two fixtures on the matchday schedule: Chelsea v Newcastle United and Bolton Wanderers v Tottenham Hotspur.
Chelsea, Newcastle and Spurs are fighting for a place in next season’s UEFA Champions League, while Bolton are fighting to avoid relegation to the English Championship.
All four clubs have everything to play for on Wednesday night. Expect two cracking battles to take place at Stamford Bridge and the Reebok Stadium.
Let’s get started.
English Premier League Betting Odds: 2 May 2012
Chelsea (8/15) v Newcastle United (11/2); Draw (10/3)
Bolton Wanderers (16/5) v Tottenham Hotspur (20/21); Draw (13/5)
Bet of the Day: 2 May 2012
Wednesday’s bet of the day is Fernando Torres to score against Newcastle United, paying 6/5 odds.
Preview: Chelsea v Newcastle United
Roberto Di Matteo and Chelsea host Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night, with the Blues looking to leapfrog the Magpies in the table with a win in front of their home supporters.
Chelsea have won four of their last five home games in the league, and have only lost once under their Italian interim manager.
Meanwhile, the Magpies had been on a purple patch of sorts before being dismantled 4-0 by Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on April 28.
Prior to conceding four goals at the DW Stadium, Newcastle had given up just one goal in their previous six matches.
Will Alan Pardew’s men return to form, or will the Blues continue their purple patch and rout the Toon at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday?
We shall find out soon enough.
Prediction: Chelsea v Newcastle United
Chelsea stay hot, 2-1 Blues.
Preview: Bolton Wanderers v Tottenham Hotspur
Spurs, who have reclaimed fourth place in the Premier League, travel to the Reebok Stadium to battle bottom-three Bolton on Wednesday night.
There’s no doubt that both clubs need a result in this fixture. Spurs need three points, while Bolton would surely be content with a draw.
Now then, Bolton enter Wednesday’s fixture having tallied seven points in their last five home matches in the league.
On the other side of the touchline, Spurs have notched just two out of their last 15 points away from White Hart Lane. In case you’re wondering, that is a dismal record for a club competing for a Champions League place.
The explanation for Spurs’ away woes is quite simple, and Owen Coyle said it best.
“Spurs are a different proposition away from home than they are at White Hart Lane,” said Bolton boss Owen Coyle.
“I have had two encounters with Spurs at the Reebok Stadium – a fifth-round FA Cup tie which we drew and should have won and then when we beat them last season in the Premier League.
“So we go into this believing that if we are at our best, we can take points from the game, and that is what we will look to do.”
Prediction: Bolton Wanderers v Tottenham Hotspur
It’s about time Tottenham win away from White Hart Lane, 2-1 Spurs.
