English Premier League Preview Part I: 13 May 2012

Etihad Stadium

With all 20 English Premier League clubs having played 37 league matches in 2011-12, Sunday marks the final day of the EPL season.

Thus, all 20 clubs will be in action on 13 May, with every fixture scheduled to kick-off at 15:00.

Now then, welcome to the first of three segments of the English Premier League Preview: 13 May 2012.

This segment will include betting odds, match previews and match predictions for Chelsea v Blackburn Rovers, Everton v Newcastle United and Manchester City v Queens Park Rangers.

I’ll try to keep the useless banter to a minimum as best I can. Let’s get started.

English Premier League Betting Odds: 13 May 2012

Chelsea (1/3) v Blackburn Rovers (9/1); Draw (4/1)

Everton (13/10) v Newcastle United (21/10); Draw (5/2)

Manchester City (1/7) v Queens Park Rangers (16/1); Draw (15/2)

Bet of the Day: 13 May 2012

Sunday’s bet of the day is over 2.5 first half goals when City host QPR at the Etihad Stadium, paying 11/4 odds.

Preview: Chelsea v Blackburn Rovers

Chelsea will look to rebound from their 4-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield when they host Blackburn Rovers at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, 13 May.

The Blues won the reverse fixture at Ewood Park on 5 November 2011 courtesy of a Frank Lampard goal in the 51st minute.

Chelsea entered that game on a two-game losing streak, while they’ll enter Sunday’s clash having just been embarrassed by Liverpool.

With that said, Blackburn are exactly the team you want to play when you need three points. Well, Wolves would surely be preferable, but Rovers will do just fine.

Prediction: Chelsea v Blackburn

The Blues control the game from start to finish, 3-0 Chelsea. Odds: Chelsea to win 3-0 pays 17/2 odds.

Preview: Everton v Newcastle United

Alan Pardew’s Newcastle United travel to Goodison Park to battle Everton on Sunday, with the Magpies needing three points to keep their UEFA Champions League dream alive.

Newcastle can qualify for next season’s Champions League with a win and a loss by either Arsenal or Tottenham Hotspur.

Of the two north London clubs, Arsenal, without a doubt, have the more challenging fixture.

The Gunners must travel to The Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion, while Spurs are scheduled to host Fulham at White Hart Lane.

Luckily for Arsenal, Albion are a better side away from home, 7-5-7, than at The Hawthorns, where they have posted a 6-3-9 record this season.

Unfortunately, Newcastle does not control their own destiny, but they do know that they must win for them to stand a chance of qualifying for Europe’s most prestigious club football competition.

Prediction: Everton v Newcastle United

The Magpies win by the slimmest of margins, 2-1 Newcastle. Odds: Newcastle United to win 2-1 pays 10/1 odds.

Preview: Manchester City v Queens Park Rangers

Manchester City can win the Premier League on their home ground on the final day of the season. Does it get any better than that? Surely not.

With their fate yet to be determined, Mark Hughes’ Queens Park Rangers travel to the Etihad Stadium to battle rising Premier League giants Manchester City.

If Bolton Wanderers beat Stoke and QPR lose to City, the Premier League newcomers will be headed straight back to the English Championship.

On the other hand, if QPR draw with City, Bolton will surely be relegated, assuming that they don’t beat Stoke by 10 goals.

Prediction: Manchester City v Queens Park Rangers

Mancini’s men demolish QPR and win the Premier League in style, 5-0 City. Odds: Manchester City to win 5-0 pays 14/1 odds.
